"Immerse Yourself" - Experimental and Avante-Garde Film Installation

"Imagine an eye unruled by man-made laws of perspective... an eye which does not respond to the name of everything but which must know each object encountered in life through an adventure of perception. How many colours are there in a field of grass to the crawling baby unaware of 'Green'? Imagine a world before the 'beginning there was a word'".

Stan Brakhage, Metaphors On Vision.

'Immerse Yourself' is a response to this provocative idea by avant-garde filmmaker, Stan Brakhage.

This film unravels and reveals Brakhage's concept of 'The Untrained Eye', and enables us to actually see the beauty that surrounds us all in everyday life.

Our eyes have become socially conditioned in only seeing what the name of the object is, and not for its visual qualities.

This film exhibits the textures, colours and meticulous detail of things that an infant or foreign traveller would see them as.

It is this awakening perception in which i strived to uncover to you.

'Immerse Yourself' was exhibited as a three-screen video installation, where no more than three viewers at a time could sit or walk within the immersive space.

The above videos act as the middle screen, so pardon the long pauses.

Enjoy!
